Das iPhone Air ist Apples bislang schlankestes und leichtestes Modell, das Anfang September 2025 vorgestellt wurde. Es präsentiert sich als neue Variante, die die bisherigen „Plus“-Modelle ablöst, und kombiniert ein sehr filigranes Design mit Leistung auf Pro-Niveau. Das Gerät misst nur 5,6 mm in der Dicke und wiegt etwa 165 Gramm, was in der Praxis spürbar leichter und eleganter wirkt als viele andere Geräte seiner Klasse.

Design & Display

Das Gehäuse besteht aus Titan der Qualität Grade 5, das poliert und mit Hochglanzfinish versehen ist, was dem iPhone Air nicht nur ein edles Aussehen verleiht, sondern auch eine gute Stabilität bietet. Vorne und hinten kommt „Ceramic Shield“ zum Einsatz, vorne in der neueren Variante „Ceramic Shield 2“, um Kratzer und Glasbruch zu verringern.

Das Display misst 6,5 Zoll, ist ein Super Retina XDR OLED-Panel mit ProMotion (also adaptiver Bildwiederholrate bis 120 Hz) und erreicht draußen Spitzenhelligkeiten von bis zu 3000 Nits, wodurch es auch unter Sonneneinstrahlung sehr gut ablesbar ist. Außerdem gibt es Always-On Display Funktionalität und ein Anti-Reflexions-Coating.

Leistung & Hardware

Im Inneren arbeitet der neue A19 Pro Chip, derselbe wie im iPhone 17 Pro, allerdings mit einer GPU etwas reduziert, um Platz und Strom zu sparen. Unterstützt wird er von den Apple-entwickelten Chips N1 (für Netzwerke wie WiFi, Bluetooth etc.) und C1X (Modem), die zu einer guten Effizienz und modernen Konnektivität beitragen.
Der Speicher beginnt bei 256 GB, weitere Varianten mit 512 GB und 1 TB sind verfügbar.

Kamera & Multimedia

Die Rückkamera löst mit 48 Megapixeln auf und verwendet eine „Fusion Main Camera“, welche für hohe Detailtiefe und gute Leistung sorgt. Allerdings gibt es nur diese eine Linse auf der Rückseite (kein Ultraweitwinkel, kein optischer Tele-Zoom), was Kompromisse in Vielseitigkeit bedeutet.

Die Frontkamera bietet 18 Megapixel und nutzt Apple’s „Center Stage“ Technologie, die bei Videoanrufen automatisch den Bildausschnitt verschiebt, um Personen im Bild zu halten. Es gibt auch Dual-Capture Funktionen, mit denen Vorder- und Rückkamera gleichzeitig verwendet werden können.

Akku & Nutzungsdauer

Apple verspricht eine Akkulaufzeit über den gesamten Tag bei normaler Nutzung. Bei Wiedergabe von Videos sollen bis zu 27 Stunden möglich sein, Streaming-Videos entsprechend etwas weniger. Außerdem wurde ein MagSafe-Akku-Pack angekündigt, das die Laufzeit bei Bedarf deutlich verlängern kann. Schnellladen und kabelloses Laden (MagSafe, Qi2) sind unterstützt, wobei die Geschwindigkeiten hier keine absoluten Spitzenwerte erreichen.

Kompromisse & Zielgruppe

Wie bei einem so dünnen Gerät sind auch Nachteile spürbar: Die Verzicht auf zusätzliche Kameralinsen schränkt die fotografische Flexibilität ein. Die Lautsprecher und möglicherweise die Audioqualität sind laut ersten Einschätzungen nicht ganz so tiefgreifend wie bei den Pro-Modellen. Auch unter Dauerbelastung könnte die dünne Bauweise den Wärmemanagement Spielraum einschränken. Für Nutzer, die Wert auf Design, Gewicht und Mobilität legen, ist das Air ein spannendes Modell. Wer aber höchste Kameraausstattung oder maximale Performance unter extremer Belastung will, wird eventuell lieber zu einem Pro-Modell greifen.

The wool for our felt comes from sheep in New Zealand and Australia and is mulesing-free. Mulesing is a controversial process that is unfortunately still practiced in Australia, but only with Merino sheep. The Australian wool from our German felt producer is 100% Merino wool free. This creates a mixture of New Zealand Merino wool and Australian non-Merino wool, which also has an impact on the particularly good and consistent quality of our felt. It is even, stable and pleasant to the touch. For our cell phone case with wallet function we use vegan cork material instead of leather.

The production of organic cotton is certified according to GOTS is subject to the socially and environmentally friendly GOT standards. The printing takes place within the EU in Poland at a modern textile printing company. The organic cotton yarn is produced in the tranquil Netherlands.

Cork has a uniquely pleasant feel. The harvest is good for our environment and the people who grow cork oaks. Cork oak forests are particularly sustainable biotopes with diverse flora and fauna. The tree forms new bark every 9-11 years. A cork oak that is harvested binds 3 times as much CO₂ as one that is not harvested. Harvesting is a Portuguese tradition that can only be done by hand. It guarantees forest owners a secure and well-paid existence.
